How to use it

  1. Look at the card under a bright light, front and back.
  2. Pick the closest description for each area.
  3. Read the rough condition and which area drives it.

The worst area sets the condition, following the five raw conditions used by marketplaces such as TCGplayer: Near Mint, Lightly Played, Moderately Played, Heavily Played and Damaged.

A rough guide, not TCGplayer’s points system or a professional grade. Many small flaws together can lower the condition.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about this tool

What is the difference between Near Mint and Lightly Played?

Near Mint cards look nearly unplayed with only slight flaws. Lightly Played cards can show minor edge wear, scuffs or scratches, but no major defects.

Does a crease make a card Damaged?

Not always. TCGplayer allows some bends and creases at Moderately Played if the card’s structure is intact; tears, folds and punctures usually mean Damaged.
